High Tea with BellaNaija Style is a glamorous spinoff of our Women’s Month celebration.

Chioma donned a monochromatic red look from one of her favourite African designers, Weiz Dhurm Franklyn‘s SS24 collection, featuring a red velvet, silk braided corset top paired with deconstructed pants. She paired the outfit with a red fascinator from Urez Kulture, a red bag, nude strappy sandals and luxe silver accessories.

Her hair was sleeked into a pretty ponytail with extensions from her brand Good Hair Limited and she finished the look with a flawless glowing facebeat that she later revealed was self-made. Swipe through the carousel below to see more of her:

BellaNaija Style partnered with NIVEA in March which is significant for being Women’s History Month to celebrate the incredible women who make our world a more beautiful place. As part of the fifth year celebration for the annual BellaNaija Style Women’s Month activities, we had the privilege of celebrating two exceptional BellaNaija Style followers, Success Orakwe and Adaeze Ogbu, with an unforgettable experience as we wrapped up the #BNSWomensMonth.

These women began their bond and friendship at the university and they were randomly selected for a full luxurious makeover session, complete with pampering, expert makeup, and a stunning photoshoot.

Success is a multifaceted professional with expertise in geology, content creation, cybersecurity, and skincare, and embodies the power of self-confidence. Adaeze is a geophysicist with a love for dance, UI/UX design, and content creation, who showcases the beauty of diversity.

The true beauty of these women transcends their achievements, their friendship is a testament to the power of uplifting and celebrating each other. Their laughter and genuine warmth filled the room throughout the makeover, a beautiful reminder that true beauty radiates from within.

This makeover wasn’t just about achieving flawless makeup (though the results were undeniably gorgeous!). It was about celebrating the unique beauty of each woman and empowering them to confidently own their radiant selves. NIVEA products played a key role in creating a healthy, glowing canvas for the makeup artist to work her magic. Success, the skincare influencer lays emphasis on the fact that true beauty comes from understanding your skin’s needs and prioritizing self-care.

This makeover session wasn’t just a treat for Success and Adaeze; it was a way for BellaNaija Style to show appreciation for our amazing audience. You, our #BellaStylistas, are the heart and soul of our community.

When Lade asked Ink Balogun, a pioneer in Nigeria’s digital media industry who has led Aso Ebi Bella (asoebibella.com) since 2017 and recently launched the indigenous 234 Games (234games.co):  “As the leader of a successful online community, we know that you see a lot of GenZ and millennial women challenging traditional narratives of success. What are you seeing now in areas like entrepreneurship and social impact?”

She said:

I’m just really happy to celebrate Nigerian women, our resilience, our focus, and our determination are unmatched. We are top-tier! We set trends that the whole world follows and adopts eventually.

In the space of entrepreneurship, I see women of different ages find new outlets for creativity and that is really inspiring. I mean look at Veekee James, Hilda Baci, and I don’t even think they are 30… We have new voices coming out everyday.

Also for older people, if you feel your time has passed, that is not true, there is always time to reinvent the wheel and to pick up your inspiration. Nigerian women inspire me because we are setting the trend, we are the prototype!

When Clara Chizoba Kronborg, an award-winning media & social entrepreneur was asked to share some strategies she has used to overcome societal expectations and achieve success on her own terms seeing that she’s broken barriers in terms of media ownership, she said:

First of all, success is very subjective, it’s about being very authentic and as a Nigerian/African woman living in the diaspora, where you have to really own who you are 100% to be able to thrive and be able to have a strong voice and express yourself in the way that it should be.

How have I done that? It’s honestly by being myself and realising who I am: who is Clara? what’s your purpose, and what are you put on this earth to do? The moment I realised that, I knew that the only way for me to navigate that is to stay true to my person so that I don’t have to apologise when I walk into a room. I need you to see that this is me, this is all of me, and you’d take it as it comes.

The moment I embraced my personality, it made things a lot easier. I also leveraged networking to be honest and when you are authentic, people know when you are fake, people can see through your boo ha ha… Build a strong reliable network!

For the media work that I do, I’d honestly say it’s the team and the work they put in. I’ve been able to build a strong team who believe in my vision and I cannot thank them enough for it… Everything that I’ve built and leveraged so far I got from being true to myself, knowing who I am, and just holding fast to it.

When Joyce Jacob, a renowned Celebrity Makeup Artist with an eye for striking yet subtle makeup looks and the Director of Hair & Makeup for the 2nd season of Netflix‘s glamorous hit reality series YOUNG, FAMOUS & AFRICAN, was asked to share how she defines success for herself within the very diverse and saturated beauty industry, seeing that her career path highlights the need for artistic expression and career branding, she said:

For me, success is getting to the place where you are comfortable. When I say comfortable, I mean comfortable in your craft, comfortable in your talent, and comfortable in what you have to offer to the world…

Success is when you don’t have to work too hard. You know, I don’t have to bend over backwards; when I don’t have to do clickbait… You can actually just sit in your talent, sit in craft, and be confident that the bookings are going to keep rolling in; you’re going to stay booked and busy, and you’re going to keep achieving your dreams, for me that is success.

And also not getting carried away, cause in my industry it is so easy to get carried away. I started over 10 years ago, 2009 to be specific… and the industry has grown so beautifully. It’s been a beautiful thing to see and you can get carried away…

Part of my success has just been staying true to myself and it’s the #1 advice I will give to anyone starting a business… Just stay true to yourself, stay true to your signature, stay true to your craft, and I promise you, you will be successful.

Your work at Aso Ebi Bella celebrates African culture, how can we use entrepreneurship and digital platforms to define success beyond traditional stereotypical metrics and integrate cultural identity and social impact into our goals and why we should do these things?

Authenticity is where you find yourself, uniqueness is where you find yourself, not echoing other people’s voices but finding your own.

…GenZ and Gen Alpha you have the benefit of “being African” being cool now. We (Millenials) didn’t have that… and honestly we suffered from streotypes (a lot of misrepresentation) and it really took us defining what we want.

When it comes to women specifically, I love what we’ve done because things like fashion and even cooking have been looked down on. After all, women provide these services for free.

We provide them as part of our energy and giving beauty and light to the world; but us being able to say “No, take us seriously, this is a business, this ties into our identity, this says something, this makes money, this provides inspiration,” is so important.

We’ve even seen designers from international runways pick one or two inspirations from us, and it’s not like we need that validation but it shows that we have a unique authentic voice to bring.

So finding your voice, having the discipline to streamline it into a business and run a team around it, and staying true to yourself and improving your craft is really key… You also have to evolve while staying true to yourself.

I think it’s really important and I’m inspired by what I see going on currently.

— Nkechi (Ink) Balogun

What are some of the biggest stereotypes you’ve encountered as a successful African woman and how have you defined success for yourself in light of these expectations?

The biggest stereotype and I think most women can relate to this is “Oh she’s successful, someone is bankrolling her, someone is behind her, etc”. It’s just always someone else other than the person that’s truly behind the craft and that for me is the number one stereotype.

People don’t believe that it can be you all alone and I don’t know why this stereotype is always there but it’s disgusting and it’s false. You’d be surprised at how much you can achieve by yourself if you truly just put your mind to what you want to do.

You are enough and you should believe that you are enough! You don’t need to have anyone bankrolling or sponsoring you.

— Joyce Jacob

Your Guinness World Record attempt highlights the power of perseverance, what message do you have for young women facing challenges on their path to success? You’ve also moved from country to country and travelled to over 30 countries which is amazing, how has perseverance played a role in all of these things and your breaking the barriers to success?

It’s easy to tell someone to persevere, “you have to persevere and keep going”, but it’s easier said than done.

First of all the Guinness World Record attempt, I didn’t just wake up overnight and want attempt to break a record interviewing 94 people for 55 hours non stop. It was the most insane thing I’ve ever done in my life and it’s still ongoing and we hope to bring the news to life soon. However, perseverance is a big key… but it’s easier said than done.

If you want to achieve something, you just have to wake up and you go from it because no one is coming to save you. If you want to do it, you have an idea, you have a concept, go for it!

… How it works for me: I have an idea, I send an email out, and if I don’t get a response after 24 hours, I will be knocking at your door. Also if you say no to me, that’s okay. If you say go and restructure and come back, I will restructure and I will come back. That’s the way it is.

I don’t take no for an answer. If it doesn’t work for us, that is okay, I move on to the next person… and if you say no, I knock on another door. I keep trying again because I know one day, somebody will see the vision and say yes and that person becomes one of the team. I keep finding and looking for the person who sees the vision of where I am heading to.

There’s no perseverance without you putting action into it, it’s okay if it gets hard, cry if you have to but don’t stay down, pick up yourself and move forward. You need to find a way to get to the next level, if it takes calling the person that helps you feel the fire, call them… Build your step-by-step action and keep going.

— Clara Chizoba Kronborg

With two extraordinary seasons delivered to our screens, The Real Housewives Of Lagos (RHOLagos), has become synonymous with high fashion, because its casts always come correct.

They did not disappoint on the recently released S2 reunion episode which is now airing on Showmax, keeping the energy as vibrant as ever they donned first-class pieces from some of Nigeria’s leading Designers. Let’s take a look at their breathtaking outfits below:

Mariam Adeyemi Timmer in Anjy Luminee Couture

Mariam Adeyemi Timmer was on a mission to serve us an ethereal goddess vibe in her white + tan classic gown with nude illusion details by Anjy Luminee Couture, highlighting her softer side.

The fierce Melanin Magic RHOLagos cast was adorned in an elegant mermaid dress with pearls and feathers embellishments and some drapings. Mariam complemented her look with a statement feather headpiece by Urez Kulture, a stylish low bun and dangling diamond earrings.

Faith Morey in Amy Aghomi

Just as she had said on the show, you’ll either see Faith Morey with a crown or a train. The six-foot Amazon goddess attended the reunion in a red 3D floral dress with golden-brown infusions, quite like her beautiful skin.

Designed by Amy Aghomi, a Lagos-Warri-based fashion designer, the dress had an exaggerated floral collar which extended above her head into a remarkable bouquet of red flower stalks and featured Faith’s signature flowing train.

She complemented her look with a diamond-studded neckpiece and accompanying diamond studs from Boz Jewelry. Her feet were strapped in complementary red-heeled sandals, her hair was sleeked back from her face though with a pretty centre part and she rocked a soft sultry glam with the exceptional look.

Laura Ikeji in Medlin Couture

Laura Ikeji showed up looking stunning in a high-slit beaded ivory dress by Medlin Couture paired with gloves and a rosette-embellished cape.

Styled by Medlin Boss and Gabriel Anthony, the bubbly RHOLagos cast complimented her look with side bangs, diamond accessories from Saint Tracys and feathery heels.

Dr. Rommel in Sevon Dejana

Dr Rommel stepped out in his distinct flamboyant style sporting a custom crystal-beaded yellow ensemble by Sevon Dejana featuring Naija’s traditional top layered with a cape.

The outfit was accompanied by a custom cap, coral beads and a gold-detailed walking stick to complete the look

Enninful, who shattered glass ceilings as the magazine’s first Black Editor-in-Chief, left a legacy of inclusivity and audacious style, paving the way for Chioma Nnadi to become the first black female Head, marking the dawn of a new era in fashion.

Nnadi, a fashion powerhouse, assumed the role with a unique perspective informed by her extensive years in fashion editorial. She joined Vogue in 2010 in New York and later worked running the American website of Vogue as well as writing for the magazine and co-hosting the Vogue podcast before taking up the reins last October as the Head of Editorial Content at British Vogue.

Resourceful and resilient: for me, those are the two words that truly underpin the brilliance of British style. Three decades later and, while much has changed in the 20 years I have been living in the US, London’s beautiful, creative, scrappy energy – one that just can’t be found or emulated anywhere else – remains undimmed.

And so, back on home turf with the new responsibility and supreme honour of taking up the mantle at British Vogue, I knew my first cover star needed to be someone who defined that inimitable spirit. Luckily for me, it was an easy choice.

FKA Twigs is an artist who represents the ideal of the modern British eccentric: she is a shape-shifter who rejects conformity and takes real joy in clothes. And as someone whose personal style was ignited by the clubbing scene, I was so inspired speaking with Twigs about her latest work and the always-alluring relationship between fashion and music.

She reminded me that it isn’t just about the runway – it exists and can be found in so many different places, be it at a rave or in our home lives.

Chioma said in her editor’s note

FKA Twigs whose real name is Tahliah Debrett Barnett is a British singer, songwriter, and dancer who became known as Twigs for the way her joints cracked.

She settled in Hackney in her early 20s becoming something of a local celebrity overnight when, in 2012, she was spotted by the photographer Matthew Stone at Hoxton Station the morning after a warehouse party. She got cast as an extra in a story for i-D. She’d end up on the magazine cover before she’d even signed to a record label.

I just want to be in touch with nature again though, that’s what it boils down to. I still feel so plugged into the culture. I want to rave, I want to make love, I want to meet people. But equally, I want to find peace.

Twigs speaking about her career, healing, love, her career, healing from abuse, her diagnosis, facing racism and the chaos of the real world.

According to the Vogue article, “as an artist, Twigs has always moved through the pop cultural universe at her own speed, often melding genres at opposite ends of the spectrum – opera with R&B, say – to form the contours of her singular sound. She’s stretched the boundaries of her physical body in every possible direction.

For her second album, Magdalene (2019), she mastered the ancient art of wushu sword fighting and ascended to the heavens on a stripper pole in the wildly popular video for “Cellophane”. Her approach to performance style has been just as mutable, defined only by her ability to shapeshift from one exquisitely dressed creature to the next.”

In a follow-up video titled “Life in Looks” after her British Vogue cover debut, she takes readers through 18 of her memorable looks from 2014. From the artwork for her debut studio album ’LP1’ to her British Vogue cover she explains every look in detail.

To be on Chioma’s cover is a huge honour… This is a real milestone.

Clara Chizoba Kronborg

In her words, “Growing up, I thrived in front of the mic, creating non-fiction drama and being that girl who motivates other young girls’’, but she never knew it was a thing or could even become one.

The Media path found her because the truth was that when she started the Women’s World Show in 2009, she had zero knowledge of what she was getting herself into, it was all passion but she started anyway. In 2010, she took a break from the show and moved to Ghana to study at the Ghana Institute of Journalism in Accra.

Soon after, in 2013, she met her husband and relocated to Denmark where she spent the next four years learning Danish, studying VUC & HF, and adjusting to her new life in Europe. In 2017, she once again started filming Women’s World Show in Denmark, with a private screening of the first season held on 6th December 2018.

Years passed but her passion has only grown stronger than ever. She has evolved, is mentally & physically equipped, academically enlightened and has travelled to over 30 countries. Today, the Women’s World Show creates awareness of the challenges women face in their day-to-day endeavours…

…To recognize women of hard work; To provide services and products that showcase the beauty of a woman. To impact in young growing women that for every finished work/picture seen, comes with lots of efforts and perseverance, to be an emblem of Unity among women, to build a platform where women supports women, women uplifts women, to shine light on women stories in Europe & Africa and add to the development of African through women empowerment.

She is passionate about storytelling for a change; personal stories, stories of other women, content creation, and visual marketing stories. She is a skilled content creator, strategic planner, business developer, marketing strategist and media producer.

Clara has empowered about 100 women around African countries like; Nigeria, Ghana and Kenya respectively through making Entrepreneurs in the women’s world show and is currently mentoring 20. The session featured a liberating candid conversation between the hosts and our guests:

(1)Mitchel Ugochi Ukachukwu Miss Universe Nigeria, the 1st and only beauty queen in Nigeria’s history to clinch both titles of Most Beautiful Girl in Nigeria and Miss Universe Nigeria; (2) Zainab Balogun a British-Nigerian Actress, TV Host, and the Executive Producer at ZABA Productions; and (3) Mojibade Sosanya who has built an impressive career as a corporate communications executive, event host, TV presenter, and public speaker.

When Motunde asked, “How has self-care and self-love played a role in your advocacy effort and how has it helped you own your narrative?”

… I shared my story because I didn’t want another woman to find it hard to get access to this information. In sharing my story I have been able to build a community of women who can identify with this pain and now know what to do.

Self care became important for me, owning my narrative became a form of self-care because I wasn’t allowing the world determine what I can share and what I can’t share. Self-care doesn’t have to be just going for beauty maintenance, it can also be you taking a moment to be still.

Zainab Balogun

When Motunde asked Mojibade about her techniques for building confidence and finding her unique balance after pivoting career paths amidst a busy schedule, her response revealed a strong mentality routed in self-awareness, self-acceptance and self-love.

First of all building confidence and finding balance requires work. I am big on preparation and in a male-dominated industry, I’ve gotten to the place where I know that I’m bringing value on board and I’ve gotten past the phase where it feels like I’m not good enough because people don’t acknowledge that I’m as good as my male counterpart.

I’ve gotten to the place where I am really confident in myself because for the client to choose me they believe I have value to offer. I also love myself and don’t compare myself. While there is room for improvement and personal development, I’m not going to change who I am.

I prepare to go on stage with the 3 Rs: I read, research and rehearse. This helps me to go on stage and shine in my uniqueness.

Mojibade Sosanya

When asked about her perspective on navigating her industry’s pressure and staying true to oneself and values, Mitchel shared as follows:

In keeping true to one’s self and values, the first thing is to understand what those words mean to you and once you have a clear definition of what self-confidence and self-expression mean to you then you’re on the right path of keeping true to your values because then you know what those values are.

It’s not easy because there is a lot of pressure to be perfect, to look a certain way, to do things a certain way to appear in certain places and it’s not easy to keep up with these things and that is why your foundation has to be strong so that you can set boundaries. People often externalise boundaries but it’s also important to set boundaries for yourself:

what are the things you can’t compromise on? What are the things I can’t let go of? Once you’re able to build this foundation, it helps you stay true to yourself and then you don’t easily succumb to the pressure… Having a great support system and the right people around you also helps.

How can women embrace their unique identities in their fields and industries and also redefine beauty for themselves?

There is strength in knowing that everything that makes me who I am is ammunition, it’s power on its own, there is no other person like me. It doesn’t matter where I am, I know that I can buy a certain level of credibility with my uniqueness and I have to celebrate that.

I want to encourage women to have a sense of self awareness like no other. Be able to tell yourself what is true, what is fabricated and what is a lie.

Zainab Balogun

_

The digital world has penetrated more into society and it has stolen the opportunity to paint your life in the direction that you want without looking at anything that has been curated. It’s not a bad thing to have mentors and people that you look up to, however, you can get lost if you don’t have your own sense of individuality.

It is important to be able to differentiate between real life and social media; and have a strong foundation to enable you not to get carried away by the buzz.

Mitchel Ukachukwu

When asked how people can celebrate diversity and inclusivity within the concept of womanhood pulling from her recent viral interview on stereotypes against women and marriage, Mojibade Sosanya responded:

I am a single woman over 3o and I am not ashamed of it. I am single yet I am complete, highlighting the fact that there is no shame in singleness and there is no shame in desiring to be married.

I want to be married but I am not yet married and I am not going to put my life on hold until that happens, I am going to live my life to the fullest and I always preach this to every young female that I speak to wherever I go. I am happy to live my life to the fullest until marriage comes.

It is a completely horrible mindset to stereotype women that are not married and we must fight it. You can be 40 yet happy and single, singleness is not a condition, you are just unmarried and that is what it is. It doesn’t make you lesser than anyone who has gotten married and who gave us these timelines?

I need us to build a better society where women can live to their full potential whether they are married or not. A society without pressure and just letting people be and allowing them to breathe. Whatever phase you are in, allow yourself to breathe and bask in the beauty of that phase.

I am single, I am happy, I am thriving…

Hi BellaStylistasBNStyle Plus Sound is back! This is a mini-series our team developed during #BNSWomensMonth22 to celebrate how our faves use their style to elevate their brand and inspire us with their fabulous looks. We will be highlighting their fashion highlights each week this month. For this year’s edition, we will spotlight 4 amazing female artists with incredible styles.

Aya Coco Danioko, known by her stage name Aya Nakamura, is a Malian-French pop singer who published her music online, gaining a following with “Karma” and “J’ai mal“. Notably, her song “Brisé“, garnered traction on Youtube.

She released her debut album “Journal Intime” in 2017, closely followed in 2018 by Nakamura, which was certified Diamond in France. Two (2) years after its release, the Nakamura album passed the billion streams mark on Spotify, making her the most listened-to French-language female artist on Spotify.

Aya is known for her sleeky straight hairstyles. Her fashion sense cuts across comfort and sultry. She’s boldly voluptuous, her style blends confidence with what’s been described as a Parisian flair.

With March comes our month-long celebration of the achievements, strength, and resilience of women around the world. BellaNaija Style Women’s Month is back and our team has put together these simple options you can explore for meaningful celebration.

Let’s make it a point to uplift and support one another in affordable yet impactful ways. By doing this, we play out the highly significant and crucial quality of empathy and the sweetness of our femineity.

1. Host a Women’s Gathering
Invite friends, family, and/or colleagues for a fun time out or in-feasting where insights, stories, experiences, and goals can be shared. Great things happen when women come together purposefully.

This can be done virtually or in person, depending on the circumstances. Encourage open and supportive dialogue and empower each other to push through hard times as we reach for the stars.

Claire Idera Nnani, Sanchan Elegushi, Mimmi Chima, Henriette Itepu, Teminikan Idowu, Adaeze Onah & Mary Edoro at IWD Lunch with BellaNaija Style

2. Support Women-Owned Businesses
Show support for women entrepreneurs by shopping from women-owned businesses. Whether it’s some handmade jewellery, a sumptuous meal order, or a beauty product, every kobo you spend contributes to the success of women in business.

Review the comments section of the Instagram post below for some options, courtesy of our BellaStylistas:

You can also show support for women at work by joining our #BNSShout Challenge on Instagram, hosted every weekend in March.

3. Volunteer for Women’s Cause
Impact the community by volunteering for organizations that support women’s rights, health, and empowerment. It could be helping nursing mothers, catering to trauma victims., mentoring young girls, assisting at a women’s shelter, or participating in a fundraiser for a women’s charity.

4. Stage a Clothing Swap
Sustainability and conscious consumption are in vogue now, so invite your friends and neighbours to a clothing swap where pre-loved clothing that’s no longer needed can be responsibly exchanged or thrifted. This could be a great low-expense wardrobe-refresh opportunity.

Learn more about clothing swaps, thrifting and sustainability here.

5. Host a DIY Spa Date
Treat yourself and/or your friends to a relaxing DIY spa date at home. Create homemade face masks, scrubs, and bath bombs using natural ingredients, and spend the day pampering yourself with massages, facials, and manicures. It’s a wonderful way to unwind and indulge in some self-care.

During Women’s Month this year, we want our women to be intentional about celebrating one another and maximizing the season. Find meaningful ways to uplift, inspire, and empower the women in your circle, you may begin with any of the above-listed suggestions or explore more options here.

Together, we are creating a world where a woman can feel more valued, respected, and appreciated for who she is and all that she contributes. By exploring meaningful ways to honour one another, we contribute to a more inclusive and supportive world for future generations.

Let’s continue to shine brightly, inspire one another, and make every day a celebration. Here’s to a month filled with love, laughter, and limitless possibilities.

She was gorgeous in a sultry Maison Valentino couture dress with a sweep train. The defining element of the outfit was its plunging cowl neckline with its straps going over her shoulders and forming an intertwined “x” open back that dropped to her waistline complementing the aesthetic. Adut topped her look with a green mini bag featuring shiny black sequins.

For hair and makeup, she rocked a high ponytail with a swoop of side bangs and a no-makeup makeup look. See up-close below:

At the Los Angeles’ Dolby Theatre, where the 96th Academy Awards took place, The Black Panther star arrived the red carpet in her beautiful silk-embroidered sequin ensemble which featured top-to-toe crystal embellishments with pale blue feathers at the peplum waist and hem, all in a lovely powder blue.

Although Nyong’o was not up for a nomination at the 96th Oscars, she was among an A-list group of presenters. 10 years after winning the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress in 2014, for her performance in 12 Years a Slave, she presents Da’Vine Joy Randolph hers.

Her decade-long stylist, Michaela Erlanger told ELLE USA:

This was a look that we actually had been holding on to for a very special moment… We had to find the right moment and this felt so serendipitous.

Even models have attested that posing for the cameras can be tiring. But here’s Lupita having a blast at it. In the Instagram reel below, she is seen having the time of her life, loving being a woman, expressive, young and free. One of the many reasons why we LOVE Lupita!

Many know her as the officially amazing culinary wunderkind, restauranteur and “one-take-queen” on cameras, but do you know that the 2023 Guinness World Record Holder, Hilda Baci, is a proud “Mummy’s Girl”?

Perhaps you do. Hilda Baci has been quite vocal about the amazing love and bond she shares with her gorgeous mother, who introduced her to cooking and made enormous sacrifices for her to become the amazing success she is today.

Truly, like begets like and Hilda sure got more than her culinary skills from mum. From gorgeous curves to a strong fashion sense, confidence, style and then some, this mother and daughter haven’t ceased to be our thrill. Lately, they share a stunning beauty moment via an Instagram carousel of 3 fun slides, twinning in black graphic tees, jeans, and sweet boho braids. See below:

A post shared by Hilda Baci (@hildabaci)

Mum just clarified what a millennial Bellastylista she is at heart and we can’t help swooning over how chic she looks. As for Hilda, it’s no surprise how good she looks here, with the way she’s been “eating” back-to-back, as far as the topic of fashion is concerned. They both opted for minimal, natural-looking makeup with glossy lips that accentuated their features.

Did this get you craving the companionship of your lovely mother? Celebrate her today!

Happy Mother’s Day!

Hi BellaStylistas! BNStyle Plus Sound is back!

Oyinkansola Sarah Aderibigbe, professionally known as Ayra Starr, is a Grammy-nominated Nigerian singer-songwriter who was discovered by Don Jazzy when she posted an original song on her Instagram Page in 2019. Fondly called “The Celestial Being”, she swiftly rose to prominence following the release of her EP with the hit track Away.

In 2023, she received a Grammy nomination in the “Best African Music Performance” category for the 66th Grammy Awards, but it’s not only her musical prowess that makes her magnetic, Ayra Starr is known for her impeccable fashion sense which is a vibrant mix of sultry inspirations and the early 2000s trends. Proudly Gen-Z, she isn’t scared to rock her chic minis, sleeveless, and crops, brilliantly styling them to suit each occasion she graces.

Nollywood star actresses — Beverly Naya and Linda Ejiofor-Suleiman joined BellaNaija‘s Mary Edoro in a candid conversation, powered by NIVEA, tagged “Challenging the Norm: beyond Trends & Influences” at the first #BNSCONVOS this year, commemorating the 5th Edition of BellaNaija Style Women’s Month.

Our viewers said listening to these successful African women felt so empowering as they delved into the world of beauty beyond trends and cultural influences. Balancing successful public careers, these remarkable women embrace their authentic selves unapologetically, paving the way for others to do the same.

Speaking on the power of authenticity, Beverly Naya, who is also the award-winning producer of the prolific Netflix documentary, Skin, aimed at addressing colourism in our society, said during the session:

Of course, there are pressures that come with the industry but it’s really important to know who you are and have values and respect them at all times.

Ensure that you are truly yourself at all times and authentic to who you are… if it doesn’t feel right, if it doesn’t feel natural, you have to put yourself first, because the last thing you want to do is loose yourself in this industry. That’s not sustainable, you know.

One of the things that has given Linda and I, and so many others, longevity in the industry is that we are authentic and people have accepted us for who we are.

Speaking on utilising her platform to inspire others to be authentic, Linda Ejiofor-Suleiman, a chic mum, and co-producer of the Due-parenting pod said:

How I carry myself, How I dress is very important. How I look, How I talk, How I engage with people is really important because first impression matters.

I always remember and say: now that I’m a mum, will I be proud of how I look now in 10 years? Would my kids be proud of how I look when they see me in 10 years? I have to be proud of me…

I might not look a certain way people are looking right now or want other people to look or that is considered good for TV but I am me, I am being me, I am authentic and I am unapologetically African.

From the session, we found these prominent figures in media, TV, and film alluding to the fact that it is okay to be different from others. It is okay to be your own version of beautiful with confidence.

Styled by Shaquille Ross-Williams, she wore two-toned long straight hair with a cat eye and bold lipstick glam that spoke to her style.

In an interview with British Vogue, as she got ready for the big night, Vivian had this to say about choosing her dress and how it intersected with her style “1996 was such a classic and iconic era of Gucci,” noting the sleek black business-at-the-front, party-at-the-back gown. “It was made the same year I was born – I feel like we’ve been waiting to meet each other.”

Nigerian actress and style star, Temi Otedola, gave all eyes a fancy treat at her first Paris Haute Couture Week experience this year, living a fashion girl’s dream from Tamara Ralph to Fendi‘s star-studded show.

Temi Otedola at the 2024 Paris Haute Couture Week

In recent times, Temi’s back-to-back slay has left quite an impression on the fashion scene. From gracing Burberry‘s SS24 runway show at London Fashion Week in coordinating pieces with Gabrielle Union to accompanying her Afrobeats star hubby to the recent British Fashion Awards in a classy style, this trailblazer is not relenting on paving her path to iconic style status.

In Paris, she unravelled new dimensions of her elegance, showcasing her superb taste in high fashion and vintage style from one haute couture show to another. As expected, BellaNaija Style has reviewed her PFW style portfolio and we have curated below the thrills and glam that deserve your attention. So, let’s explore them together:

Show Day 1

Vintage Aesthetics: Temi kicked off her haute couture viewing with the Tamara Ralph show, wearing top-toe Casablanca, styled by Rebecca Corbin-Murray.

She donned the Astrakhan short suit jacket with Casablanca’s signature gold-rimmed pearl button detailing and its coordinating short skirt. Paired with kitten pumps, Temi rocked the all-black outfit with minimal makeup by Kenneth Soh and side bangs by Rio Sreedharan.

Lights, camera, action! So much talent and richness in one frame, it’s simply iconic.

In a rush of dopamine, images of unity and sheer star power adorn the pages of the new British Vogue, crowned with a legendary cover that marks the end of an extraordinary era under the stewardship of its outgoing editor-in-chief, Edward Enninful.

For six and a half years, the iconic Edward Enninful a Ghanaian, the first male, and the first black editor of the publication has steered British Vogue with unparalleled grace, vision, and a commitment to diversity. As he bids farewell to his role to embark on a new global journey with publisher Condé Nast, he leaves behind an awe-inspiring legacy on the landscape of fashion and media.

Edward dedicated his final cover to women, whom he says have shaped British Vogue for close to 108 years, and have informed every moment of his six-and-a-half-year tenure at the publication.

For his grand finale, he orchestrated a monumental gathering of iconic figures described as a sisterhood of megastars featuring 40 of the world’s busiest leading ladies, from Oprah Winfrey to Serena Williams, Naomi Campbell, Victoria Beckham and Miley Cyrus, each of them a legend in her own right to capture the essence of his tenure in one mesmerising image.

Vogue’s March 2024 issue is an ode to women and a fitting herald for the upcoming International Women’s Month.

When the initial idea for the cover was ignited, there was only one question: would 40 of the most booked and blessed women on earth actually make it to one studio in Manhattan, on one day in December, to take one image together? Spoiler alert: they came. From London, New York, Paris, Milan and Los Angeles, they materialised as if from a dream. Because who else could get 40 of the greatest talents from fashion, Hollywood and beyond in one room for a show of unity but Edward?

British Vogue

Vogue’s 40 cover stars all came into a room in Manhattan on one day in December 2023 for this epic shoot. It was the biggest set Edward had been on in his vibrant career, he said

Everyone was in the highest of spirits and it was fun to witness even the most worldly of stars’ jaws hit the floor at a never-before-seen gathering.

Explore the fashion spread below and visit Vogue.co.uk to learn more. Vogue’s epic March issue will be available on stands from February 13th, 2024.

To get one of these women on a cover takes months. To get 40? Unheard of

It was clear to all of us on the team that no one woman could or should encapsulate these past few years for the magazine. What we needed was a group, to lean into the power of the collective to bring to life what I hope has been a daring, disruptive and evolutionary period in Vogue’s history.

Legacy is an unusual concept to consider (certainly when you are in the middle of your life!) but I hope you will all forgive me for a moment as I – and the 40 legendary women who feature on the cover of the March 2024 issue of @BritishVogue – reflect on what has been a joyful, profound and invigorating chapter.
